Australian User Conference | Noosa Heads | 24-26 October

 In Events

October 24-26 saw the Datamine team hosting the Australian Users Conference in the beautiful and pristine Peppers Noosa Resort & Villas, Noosa Heads.

It was a highly anticipated event with over 80 attendees spanning over 3 days, some even staying for 4 days to attend extra training. It was definitely the perfect mix of work and play that not only offered insightful presentations, but interactive technical sessions as well as smaller, more personal super user sessions. A poll was conducted asking whether attendees would come to the next Conference and we received an overwhelmingly positive response with 56% saying ‘wouldn’t miss it!’ and 44% saying ‘if possible – yes’. Nothing gives us greater pleasure than to hear our attendees thoroughly enjoyed their time and walked away with invaluable memories.

“I have to say the conference exceeded my expectations and I have many take aways. Above all it was very gratifying to meet with all the Datamine people such as yourself face to face.” – Brett Gibson from Iluka Resources.

Conference Highlights

The Conference aimed to connect our Datamine software users and partners with our consultants and developers in a collaborative and open space. The facilitation of ideas; similar or opposing; were extremely encouraged as we strongly believe in the value of constantly listening and engaging with our users to make our software solutions more user-orientated and innovative. I believe our team benefited with as many take aways as our delegates!

We invited a handpicked panel of well respected industry speakers who we were honoured to listen to and engage in conversations with. It was a great opportunity to hear their thoughts on current and emerging industry trends, technological innovations, case studies as well as their own personal experience within their respective industries. Many of our own Datamine consultants and developers, both from Australia and overseas, facilitated these presentations by sharing some of our exciting upcoming releases, product roadmaps, various user case studies as well as software demonstrations. From open pit mining and underground drill and blast, to exploration geology and resource geology, our goal was to provide a plethora of various topics in order to give both delegates and speakers the optimal learning experience. Needless to say, all speakers did an excellent job with many delegates giving a 5 star rating to the presentations through our Conference app.

Technical Session Highlights

We ran 3 different technical sessions including Drone Mapping in Sirovision and a field trip with Discover Mobile which led the delegates back to the Conference venue to view their footage and data using Sirovision’s new drone mapping capabilities*. There was also a separate MSO Reserve Creation competition which was won by Michael Andrew from Evolution Mining. Congratulations again Michael! View his winning block model plus snippets of the drone session below.

*Please note that this was a special preview for our Conference delegates as Sirovision 6.2 was not officially released at time of Conference.

Super User Session Highlights

Super user sessions involved our consultants and developers running through various aspects of our software in comprehensive blocks, also allowing delegates the opportunity for questions and specific demonstrations. Nothing is better than interactive learning as seen through the excellent feedback we had from delegates who attended these sessions. A couple of sessions even exceeded capacity! One example was the extremely popular “Dealing with Structural Complex Orebodies” session led by Kathleen Hansmann, our Global Geology Product Manager, which had 16 delegates pre-registered but up to 24 people were present. Flexibility isn’t just confined to our software solutions, as we made every effort to ensure every delegate was accommodated for.

The “Underground Engineering” session led by Mick Rogers, our Senior Software Developer, gave everyone an exciting run-through of Studio UG V2’s new functionalities, some background on how the software was created as well as what we plan to achieve over the coming months – all before its official release! This complemented our earlier training sessions where delegates were able to personally use Studio UG V2 and EPS V3 for themselves, having the opportunity to create a project in Studio UG and use new options for resource and revelling in EPS.

If you would like to know more about Studio UG’s functionalities, please sign up to our blog and receive weekly bite sized overviews that are quick and easy to follow.

“I really enjoyed the training days and user sessions, being site based we’ve had to learn 5DP and EPS through a hand me down style of teaching on site and self-teaching through the tutorials. Being able to see how Caroline and Pedro use the software as well as asking questions throughout was very helpful.” – Sean Morgan from Western Areas.

Datamine Conference’s Very Own Social King!

As much as we encouraged communication between our users and our team, we also urged interaction between all delegates and speakers through face to face conversations and experience sharing through our Conference app! What is networking without a common platform to do this on? As well as a popular incentive…

Greg Jones was the final crowned winner of the Datamine Conference’s Social King Award! For being the most socially active delegate at the Conference, Greg won himself a well-deserved DJI Mavic Pro Drone. He did an amazing job documenting the Conference – everything from presentations, to the amazing food and venue facilities. Andrew Brown and Stanley Kierle were also strong candidates for the title however just missed the mark landing in 2nd and 3rd, but still coming on top for the Most Social Company – an award we spontaneously decided to give away as a token of appreciation for their busy fingers. Please watch below for Greg’s wonderful winning speech as well as a snippet of the social engagement we received over the 3 days. Well done to everyone!

And that officially wraps up what was an amazing and fruitful Conference for all. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who was involved in making this event an absolute success, and of course our valued guest speakers and delegates who took time off in order to join us at Noosa Heads.

We hope everyone walked away with memories and new colleagues that will last a lifetime, as well as some interesting take aways from the presentations and super user sessions.
