European Users Conference 2018
Following two rounds of successful Conferences, we ended the year with yet another memorable and fantastic Conference hosted by Datamine International from 12-16 November 2018. It was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey and was traditionally held in the UK every two years. This was the first time in ten years that it has been hosted outside of the UK so it definitely brought with it a breath of fresh air and some exotic European nuances.
With over 70 attendees from 15 different companies based in 10 countries, it was a mixture of industry professionals from a range of backgrounds including GIS Specialists, Geologists, Mining Engineers, Drill & Blast Engineers and Grade Control Specialists. We also had our Datamine consultants and developers flown in from several different countries to attend this event in order to meet and greet our users and finally put a face to a name! Fantastic feedback was received by both delegates, speakers and staff with some stand-out testimonials below:
“Datamine is an innovative software [company] which simplifies our daily work. Great products that help us in many ways.” Frode Koldal from Titania.
“To embrace the boundless.” Anton Ignatov from Polymetal.
“As a professional Dataminer I see the continuous improvements during my experience for 15 years and I should confirm the company’s motto ‘To maximise the value of your mine’.” Mohammad Reza Kiyoumarsi from NICICo.
“Datamine, a fantastic human team really close to users’ demand. I strongly support the strategy of developing new tools relying on existing products or software solutions by merging established alliances.” Raul Hidalgo from Geotrex.
“Datamine is the oldest mining software [company], which has a lot of algorithms and processes not having analogues in other programs. The majority of the most experienced users prefer Datamine by that reason but also because Datamine did not have competitors twenty-thirty years ago when the experts were young people. I noticed that many young people today choose other mining software just because of [a] more attractive interface and more quick performance. I see that the team at Datamine have been working seriously on developing the program in this direction and I wish you success in keeping the industry leadership.” Ivan Gradovskiy from Poluys Gold.
“After 25 years of using Datamine Software, attending many training courses and most of the 13 User Conferences, I’m still more than happy using [Datamine], and even more fraternizing with its people.” Jose Manuel Prada from Geotrex.
We started the Conference with a full day of presentations from Datamine staff covering new functionalities, a sneak peek of our current developments as well as highlights of our 2019 Company and Product Road Maps. Everyone gained a better understanding of the solutions we offer and how it can improve their own work processes through personal conversations with our staff outside of presentation time slots. Our consultants and developers were always happy to chat and listen to customers’ stories and unique situations as this is always a great opportunity to further understand our end users. This helps us in providing unique and innovative solutions that are tailored and intuitive to each site.
After a hard day’s work, everyone was picked up from the Conference location and dropped off at the river cruise along the Bosporus for a scrumptious dinner and traditional Turkish and belly dancing show. Much fun was had by all and everyone certainly enjoyed the culture immersion the top-class entertainment had to offer!
Below is a video recap of the first day:
Following on from Monday’s line-up of presentations, Tuesday was our guest speakers’ time to shine with presentations such as Advances in Value Chain Optimisation, E-Learning Technologies for Remote Training and The Implementation of an Integrated System for Geology, Survey, Mine Planning and File Management.
We also ran 2 competitions, one being the Drill and Win contest which consisted of planning a drill hole in Studio RM to intersect an ore body and the participant whose drill hole had the highest grade was appointed the winner. Congratulations to Raúl Hidalgo from Geotrex who has won himself an Alexa Speaker!
The second was the Best Speaker competition which was voted through a ballot system and the winning speakers were Ashot and Konstantin from Polymetal. They walked away with the major prize of a drone – congratulations!
Even though busy, we managed to talk to some of our attendees and find out their thoughts on industry and technological trends, as well as Datamine as a company. Below is an interview we conducted with Koza Gold:
From Wednesday to Friday, we held interactive workshops that were aimed to give attendees an in-depth understanding of our products through a hands-on approach. It was the perfect opportunity for our attendees to ask questions directly with our consultants and developers and also request personal demos and initiate discussions. Open discussions of a more Q&A style was conducted every day to make sure that all queries were answered and everyone left the Conference full of knowledge and empty of curiosities. We are very thankful that all workshops and Q&A sessions were well received and that attendees found them useful and engaging.
On Wednesday night, we took our attendees on a walking tour close to Taksim Square, a popular tourist destination known as the heart of the city. Here we wondered around many restaurants, unmissable Turkish delight shops as well as some historical monuments. We could not have let everyone go home without experiencing some of the rich cultural assets Istanbul had to offer! It may be goodbye to Turkey for now, but certainly not a goodbye to our attendees. We look forward to meeting everyone in the new year and reconnect over some nostalgia of what was the Datamine European Conference!
