That’s a Wrap – Mining Indaba 2020
We were thrilled to partake in the African Mining Indaba 2020, from 3–6 February for the second year on the Canada Pavilion in Cape Town. The Mining Indaba is the world’s largest mining investment gathering which boasted an audience of 6000+ delegates. Being a part of this highly esteemed event, we connected with industry professionals from across the mining industry such as innovators, visionaries and familiar and upcoming mining companies.
Datamine was well represented with 5 delegates in attendance and a sponsored kiosk on the Canada Pavilion which was hosted by Canada Council on Africa (CCAfrica) and the Government of Canada. Being a Canadian owned company (Constellation Software Incorporated – CSI), under the Vela Software Group, our sponsorship on the Canada Pavilion illustrated the important Canadian-African trade and investment relationship which gave us access to exclusive networking opportunities and Canadian Trade Commissioners based in various African countries. The Canadian Trade Commissioners were valuable as they made themselves available to assist in forming connections between Datamine and potential business partners.
Given a platform as big as the Mining Indaba, Datamine took the opportunity to promote the recently acquired Intelligent Mining Solutions (IMS) business including the MineScape, MineMarket, Production Accounting and CCLAS solutions. These products are highly complementary to the existing Datamine product range with minimal overlap. Datamine is entirely focused on software required to seamlessly plan and manage mining operations therefore it was the perfect setting to showcase the IMS product range.
We attended various panel discussions in and around the Mining Indaba which kept us and other mining professionals in the know with current challenges within the mining industry. The topics explored ranged from technology and its role in the industry, the importance of gender equality in the mining sector as well as tackling the youth challenge of development and employment to mention a few.

It was wonderful to meet familiar faces, especially Chris Arnold, Principal Geologist at AMC Consultants, who has been a Datamine user since 1989. He spoke highly of our customizable products and the 3D visualization improvements which create ease of use and brings valuable insight to his resource reviews. Chris appreciates that we have streamlined our processes while keeping the essence of our product and ultimately, there is no mining problem Datamine cannot solve. Chris Arnold, we appreciate your continued support.
We would like to commend CCAfrica for the excellent way they hosted and supported us over the 4-day period, of the Mining Indaba, on the Canada Pavilion and at the various networking events. CCAfrica we salute you and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.
We thoroughly enjoyed participating in the African Mining Indaba this year. We hope to build on the connections made and look forward to providing superior tools to enhance mining productivity.
