As we enter the final quarter of 2020, it seems timely to reflect on the unexpected events of the year resulting from the sudden emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like all companies, Datamine had to adjust quickly to protect and support our staff through a challenging period, moving to remote work and finding effective ways to continue providing quality service and support for our customers.
There have been some interesting learnings. It has proven possible to successfully complete complex software implementations remotely, where in the past we would have had a team on site for several weeks. Success has only been possible due to the equal commitment of our customers to adjust their approach and find ways to progress together.
We have also had the opportunity to rethink the approach to software training, breaking courses down into smaller chunks that better suit online delivery modes. Again, our customers have been engaged and accommodating to embrace a new way of doing things.
Whilst remote working has proven to be possible, and even has some advantages, we are looking forward to opportunities to visit in person as safe travel becomes possible, initially domestically within countries. With over 450 staff distributed across our offices in 20 countries, Datamine is well placed to provide that personal service when and where it is needed.
Throughout the year, Datamine has continued to grow and to invest in our leading mining technology solutions. In this issue of our newsletter you can read about improvements in our survey, mine planning and exploration products, representing just a small sample of our ongoing R&D efforts. We have also been fortunate to welcome a talented and passionate team of professionals through the acquisition of Snowden in July. The Supervisor and Reconcilor software solutions are highly complementary to the Datamine suite, and we are equally excited by the opportunity to grow the advisory consulting business and offer these high-quality services in more global locations.
I hope you enjoy this edition of our newsletter and continue to stay safe and healthy wherever you are in our valued customer network of over 6000 sites in 100 countries.
