Meet Jonathan Borthwick who has recently joined Datamine Australia as a Key Account Manager, bringing over 30 years of experience in business development, sales and account management.

Get to know Jonathan a little better through the interview below:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself ?

I have been in Mining capital sales since 2004 with Komatsu, Caterpillar and Hitachi. Highlight was working with Draglines when I was at Bucyrus/Caterpillar.

Transitioned first into Key Account/Global Account Management with equipment solutions, and then into Mining technology which aligns with my desire to see truly sustainable approaches to mineral extraction/processing.

Datamine excites me with its diverse market offerings to ensure this is achieved.

Can you explain some of the challenges you consult to your clients on in a few sentences and how you help them improve?

Customers are generally looking for solutions to assist with the safety, productivity, profitability and sustainability of their operations.

I spend a lot of time trying to understand their pain points, then work with them on solutions to hopefully address these.

What inspired your career in this industry?

Initially it was the size and scale of mining equipment, however that has matured to be more about how to mine in a sustainable manner, minimize cost per tonne and increase quality of output always mindful of impact on the environment and safety.

What is the most satisfying aspect of your role / the work you do?

Meeting inspired and intelligent people and working with them on meaningful solutions.

What are your best memories from your career?

The enduring friendships, travel and seeing the wide range of extremes in which Miners operate.

Whatโ€™s a fun fact about you?

I am a part time apiarist (beekeeper) and have restored old Volkswagens.
